I am a mental health therapist who works with high functioning adults who are ready to move beyond simply coping and toward living with greater confidence, clarity, and self-trust.

Together, we will explore the key areas of life that shape how you see yourself and the world. We will work through anxiety, fears, past hurts, and unresolved experiences that continue to influence how you think, feel, and show up in the world. My Approach

I believe that healing happens through connection, and understanding your story. My goal is to create a space where you feel heard, understood, and safe to process and identify the source of specific emotional and behavioral patterns. Together we'll work to make lasting changes to help you feel more peaceful and balanced.

You can expect warmth, compassion, sensitivity, trust, honesty, respect, and collaboration. I also believe we can incorporate humor into therapy so you can expect to laugh together whenever possible.

Every client is unique, and we will work together to identify the best approach for you. I draw from various treatment modalities such as Relational Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Attachment Based Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, CBT for Eating Disorders, Family Based Treatment for Eating Disorders, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy, Positive Psychology, Motivational Interviewing, and Mindfulness. I also offer Walk and Talk Therapy!

  • I grew up in Northern Michigan and obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Northern Michigan University. I moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, and worked in a medical setting while attending graduate school. I obtained my Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work from The University of St. Thomas in St Paul, Minnesota, in 2006. I have experience practicing in numerous levels of care, but my passion lies in outpatient therapy. I moved to Florida in July of 2021. I consider myself adventurous and have enjoyed exploring the area and experiencing all the beauty that Florida offers. I love spending time with family, friends, and my pets. If you see me in the morning, you will also learn that I love coffee! I would consider it a privilege to be a part of your story, and I hope to meet you soon!

  • First things first, don’t be nervous! Please reach out to me at (727)615-6437, or jmlaurila@joyfullifetherapy.com to book your first session. I also offer complimentary 15 minute telephone consults!

  • Individual Therapy Prices are $150 for telehealth therapy, $175 for walk and talk therapy.

  • Timelines vary depending upon your presenting concern. Some clients need as few as 3-5 sessions, others need 12+ sessions. We will continue to assess together on an ongoing basis.
